Your bike is why I just ordered a set of Platts, what a sound, and a nice bike as well. Can't wait for them to get here.

If you turn down your hearing aid, it will sound like stock.

What? Pardon? I've stayed at Dave Platt's place in France (recommended) if I go back I'll invoice him for new ear drums!

Ahoy Brits, I just purchased my first Triumph. A 2012 Thunderbird 1600 with 21k and after reading your posts I have a few questions I hope you can help with.
1) Are you experiencing the annoying chirping noise from the rear wheel? What is referred to as (belt chirp) and what can be done to address this problem?
2) Stock exhaust is to quiet. I've seen Dave Platt's exhaust posts but can not find the parts on E-Bay here is US. I have looked at Triumph High Flow short mufflers #A9618050. Has anyone installed these and what is your opinion on them?
I feel the performance of the engine is adequate (but could always use a little more ) I just need it to sound more business like when competing with those Harley's.
I love the handling, the ride, and fit my 6"2"" wore out spine that this bike gives me. I will ship it to Arizona to do some long distance riding the winter.

Thanks much!
Kind regards,
Raz

Welcome Raz! The (many) answers to your questions are at your fingertips by using the forum's search function. I'd use key words like chirp, bypass, belt adjustment, short tors, etc. Good Luck

Hi there Raz, I use the short high flow exhausts and they sound good not to loud but much meatier than stock and they allow access to rear wheel bolt,
as for belt chirp you kinda entered a mine field of information there, all about getting the belt lined up correctly and there is lots of info on here regards that,
for a quick cheap temporary fix and to give your ears the feeling that your winning the war, rub the belt edge with a candle ( normal cheap candle ) takes away the noise/chirp for a while just repeat at will when it returns

For the chirp - loosen the belt a tad. Triumph spec is too tight. Whether the belt rides left side or right side is less of an issue, unless it's hard up against the right pulley flange/lip.

I have the short TORs, and they're nice. Plenty of other options, though, ranging from expensive like the Forans, or cheap like punching out the stock long pipe. You can also either go with simple 45deg conduit elbows, Jack B Quick mandrel bend 45 deg SS elbows, or a number of cat bypass designs. Depends on how much coin you want to spend. I'd recommend you get out and hear a few other birds before you start shelling out $$, because exhaust note is very subjective.

Don't forget to remap with an appropriate tune, and consider a high flow air filter with your exhaust upgrades.

Welcome aboard!
Jamie

I've literally just fitted a set to my 1700. Refitting the heat shields is a bit fiddly (unfortunately the rear bracket on one dropped off, suspect poor brazing, ??125 to replace!). Initially I struggled to find a way to get the cat off, but eventually worked it out.

When I started it up I was slightly worried by how loud they were, but went for a test ride to the pub yesterday afternoon and oh boy I love that sound - so did most of south Devon! The missus followed me home in her car and said it wasn't too loud, so I'm taking that as a positive.

BTW, I bought mine direct from Dave www.daveplattexhausts.com ??925 inc delivery

Nice! Dave may be able to fix the heat shield for you.

I have the Aussie short catless non cross over tors. They must be about 4-5 years old. They were on the loud side to begin with which I don't mind. But over time I think they have gotten louder. I do like the look and from what I can hear, I wouldn't mind making that switch.

Thanks Hornet,

Perhaps you can help me with a couple of things? My bike is a 2010 1700.

I went for a ride yesterday and with the current setup initial acceleration was a little snatchy? I'm assuming a remap might help, I've ordered a lead and believe I can buy the 'software' from Tune ECU, do you know which version I would need.

Also, I'm struggling to find a K&N air filter to fit my model, again can you point me in the right direction please?

Many thanks

David
